“Safe Rails”: A collaborative initiative to enhance railway safety

LTG Infra, the railway infrastructure company of the LTG Group, continues its "Safe Rails" program by conducting a sleepers painting campaign with representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Communications to promote safe behavior. The campaign aims to improve visibility at dangerous railway locations and draw public attention to the importance of safe behavior at level crossings.

Julijus Glebovas, the Deputy Minister of Transport, who participated in the campaign, emphasizes that railway safety is a common concern for everyone.

"We must do everything we can to minimize accidents on the railways. Every preventive measure, from technical solutions to education, contributes to saving lives," says Glebovas.

Vytis Žalimas, the head of LTG Infra, notes that painting the sleepers is just one of the many measures that the company is taking to improve infrastructure safety.

"Railway safety is one of the LTG Group's top priorities. To make traffic as safe as possible, we have been running the 'Safe Tracks' social and educational program since 2021, which aims to raise public awareness about responsible and safe behavior on the railway. In addition to traditional preventive measures, this year we are paying particular attention to technical safety measures and public information. Painting railway sleepers is a simple yet effective measure that makes dangerous areas more visible and encourages responsible behavior," says Žalimas.

This year, the LTG Group's action plan includes information and educational activities as well as investments in infrastructure safety. Automatic signaling and video surveillance systems are being installed at level crossings. Dangerous areas are being marked, and bridges and viaducts are being built. Additionally, plans are in place to install information signs at the 24 most dangerous level crossings and to implement additional safety measures at five stations to prevent the illegal crossing of railway lines.

LTG would like to thank the following partners for their contributions to the Safe Tracks initiative: the Lithuanian police, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, and the Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration.

The LTG Group, of which LTG Infra is a part, is the largest railway group in the Baltic States. It operates in three main areas: freight and passenger rail transport and the management, maintenance, and development of public railway infrastructure. The LTG Group consists of the following main subsidiaries: LTG Infra, LTG Cargo, LTG Link, and GTC.
