Renovated railroad crossings in Pravieniškės and Šiauliai will ensure safer traffic

Safe tracks

LTG Infra, a company of the LTG Group, is continuing its work to modernize the railway infrastructure throughout Lithuania, with a particular focus on improving traffic safety and infrastructure reliability. Railroad crossings in Pravieniškės and Šiauliai were renovated this past August. Additionally, five more railroad crossings are currently undergoing repairs across the country.

According to Vytautas Žalimas, head of “LTG Infra,” the modernization of railroad crossings is one of the most important measures for ensuring safer and smoother traffic flow for all road users.

“By systematically upgrading railroad crossings, we aim to ensure the safest and smoothest possible flow of train and road traffic. Modern infrastructure solutions increase the reliability of crossings, reduce the risk of operational disruptions, and allow for more efficient management of traffic flows. This is an important investment in both traffic safety and higher-quality transportation infrastructure throughout Lithuania,” says V. Žalimas.

The main construction work at the Pravieniškės railroad crossing has already been completed. The contractor is currently finishing up the finishing touches and landscaping work prior to the final completion of the project.

During the renovation, the crossing’s structures were upgraded: the crossing surface and foundation structures were replaced, the railroad tracks within the crossing were dismantled and reinstalled, and the road surface was also restored. The work was technically complex because the crossing spans as many as six railroad tracks.

Meanwhile, in Šiauliai, at the railroad crossing on Birutės Street, the physical construction work has already been completed. During the repairs, a ballastless reinforced concrete slab was installed at the crossing, road accesses were improved, and drainage and stormwater systems were installed for more efficient surface water collection.

The solutions implemented at the railroad crossings contribute to safer and smoother train and road traffic, reduce the risk of pavement deformation, and minimize the need for operational maintenance. More efficient water drainage will also help maintain the level crossing in good condition for longer and ensure its reliable operation in the future.
