LTG Infra has announced a tender for the procurement of 1435 mm gauge track construction design and project implementation services for the project “Installation of a military and civil loading yard in Palemonas”
LTG Infra will install a dual-purpose military and civil loading yard in Palemonas, Kaunas. Railway tracks will also be extended to reach it, engineering networks will be renovated and installed. In March, LTG Infra announced a public tender for the purchase of design services and project implementation services for the project “Installation of a military and civil loading yard in Palemonas”, and in April it announced a public tender for the procurement of design and project implementation services for additional 1435 mm gauge tracks for Palemonas yard. The contract with the winner to be signed in the third quarter of this year.
“We aim to contribute to ensuring Lithuania’s military mobility by increasing the loading and unloading capacity of civil and/or military cargo at the Kaunas Palemonas railway station. Kaunas is currently the furthest (northern) point of Lithuania connected to the European gauge railway. Cargo transported along the North Sea-Baltic corridor includes military cargos of NATO countries vital for the common security and training of NATO forces. By implementing this project and increasing the loading capacity, we will create additional benefits for the country’s businesses,” says Rūta Jakubauskienė, Acting Director General of LTG Infra.
This procurement includes the design and installation of three additional 1435 mm gauge tracks at Palemonas station yard. The total estimated length of newly constructed railway tracks is about 3000 metres. If necessary, noise suppression walls will be installed, engineering networks will be reorganized.
After the implementation of this project and increasing the capacity of the Palemonas yard tracks located at the approaches to the loading yard, and installation of three additional railway tracks, rolling stock will be able to reach the loading yard on both standard and broad gauge, to perform the necessary manoeuvres of wagon sets, which will contribute to the smooth implementation of loading processes. These solutions will contribute not only to ensuring the loading demands of military mobility but will also create an opportunity to adapt the loading yard for the loading of bulk cargo on the 1435 mm gauge track.
